Everton are excited to be in the FA Cup final, but they know they come into this big game as significant underdogs, despite beating Liverpool, Aston Villa, Middlesbrough and Manchester United to get to the final game.
The Merseysiders moved through after a 4-2 win on penalties following a 0-0 regulation tie vs. Man U and still no score after 120 minutes. Phil Jagielka was the hero, scoring the winning goal.
Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard performed brilliantly saving two penalties from Dimitar Berbatov and Rio Ferdinand. The loss for United killed their hopes of sweeping the five trophies this season.
Still, Everton know they have to win to cap off this magical run, as no one remembers who comes in second. Chelsea, with their star power and pedigree, has caught the attention of punters, most who feel they will dispatch the Everton side, dousing this “Cinderella” story.
Everton captain Phil Neville and his crew have done a fantastic job of splintering the usual dominance of the Big Four…do they have one more arrow left for Chelsea?
Next month’s FA Cup Final at Wembley will be the biggest game of their careers for most of the Everton players, while the Blues are somewhat more used to playing on a large stage. But Everton has stepped up when doubted several times already in their quest for this trophy.
Meanwhile Chelsea has to be concerned with not only an FA Cup trophy, but they are in the Champions League semi-final and sit third in the Premier League. And the crew at Stamford Bridge is also focused, or should be, on keeping Guus Hiddink.
His arrival has turned the team around and produced an unmitigated success…although suggestions continue to circle that he won’t be staying for the long-term. Could it be possible he departs even after leading his charges to wins in the FA Cup and Champions League.
The odds are up for the FA Cup Final, it should be an entertaining build up to the big game. Put an eye on football betting for FA Cup Champions League.
